I'm looking at an '86 JD 650 with 1600 hours. It's in good condition, is 4wd, and comes with a 5' mower deck and dozer blade. They are asking 7,900.00. My problem is I'm looking for a 650 with a loader not these other attachments. Seller is willing to sell tractor only, price not yet negotiated. What would be fair? Also, it looks like I'd be stuck buying a new loader as used ones seem non existant. Any ideas here? This tractor does have the hydraulics but no power steering or counterbalance weights. Any input would be appreciated.

I have seen quite a few 2wd JD 650's w/no loader in SC in the $5k range, give or take about $800. Since the one you are looking at is 4wd, then you can probably add about $1000 for that. The control valve costs $600 new, so you might want to include maybe $300 for that. Or from another angle, you could subtract out the items you don't want in the deal. The mower is probably about a $700 item used, but I really don't have a clue as to how the dozer blade is worth. You didn't say if it had hydraulics or not, but I would guess that it does. I would say offer around $5800 for the tractor itself. If you go to low, you insult the seller. If you are in his low range, then you can always bargain your offer up to an agreeable amount. Personally, I don't think I would go above $6000 unless you just really want it bad enough (but that's mho). Just for comparison, I bought a nice '81 2wd 21hp JD 750 (977 hours and no loader) with a 4 foot disc harrow and a 4 foot bushhog last February for all of $5000. Good luck....Keith ....

Ray,I purchased my 650 in april, it came with the loader and a 272 grooming mower, and 4 suitcase weights, it had 840 hours and was in pretty good shape. It is 4WD and has power stearing, ag tires witch are loaded in the rear. I paid 7000.00 dollars. After purchasing it I went looking for a dozer blade, JD does not make it anymore so an after market one was 2240.00 dollars, I just bought one from a use equipment dealer who did not know what it was and paid 175.00 for it. These are very good tractors, If you buy it and want to sell the dozer blade I know of at least one other person looking for one, please let me know. ....

From what I have seen, the price is about right. You hear of deals from time totime, but you can grow old finding one. The 650 is a sweet tractor. JD offerslots of support for them, and lots of loaders are made. I would consider buyingthis tractor. The power steering is available as a kit from JD and the cost isjust under $800 including hoses -this is a deal! You will need it with a loader. Roger L ....
